Wells is a small city that is situated in the Somerset district of England. It is the second smallest city of England. Wells was a historic economic city that is famous for its cathedrals. A major share of the economy is dependent on the tourism today. This city has developed into a popular tourist destination and has a number of shopping malls, hotels and restaurants.
This city is well situated on the tri junction of motorways. A39 links this city to the Historic city of Bath and Glastonbury. A371 connects this part to Cheddar and Shepton Mallet while B3139 comes from Highbridge and Radstock. There are many national coach services to other parts of the country. There is almost no railway connectivity. Trains also offer well connectivity to other cities of UK. There are a number of religious place that of historical interest. This attracts tourists all over the country.
Wells Cathedral: It is known as the Church of England. It was started in 12th century and continued till the 15th century. It is rated as the Grade I Building by the English Government. Much of the monument is built in the Early English Style of Architecture. The stained glass work is remarkable and most of the stained windows were destroyed but only two windows remain today.
Vicar’s Close: It is one of the oldest residential complexes of the England. This complex is tapered by the top by almost 10 meters to give an illusion of it being longer when it is viewed from the below.
Church of St. Cuthbert: It is often mistaken as the Church of England by the tourists. It is listed as the Grade I Building by English Government. This church is known for its carved roof.
